Salomé Wu is a multi-disciplinary artist who captures otherworldliness across all of the many art forms she uses. She expresses herself in oil painting, printing on silk, installations and performance. Through her varying mediums, Salomé aims to present nonlinear journeys, weaved with diverse moments to reveal narratives that were previously concealed.

Salomé’s artistic journey began in her teenhood when she first pursued calligraphy and painting. The years of practice is quite apparent in Salomé’s fluid brushwork and delicate marks on top of her medium of choice. With the fluency that’s resulted from her extensive practices, Salomé is able to show both boldness and subdued gracefulness in her paintings. This is further accentuated with the combination of solid brushwork and light colour palettes prominent in her body of work.

Salomé also considers herself as a global citizen, as she is aware of many perceptions and experiences. This context and understanding led Salomé to devoid her art of rigid identification and taxonomy, and rely more instead on biomorphic or abstract figures to be the subjects of her work. There is also a surreal quality in her works, which is connected to the otherworldiness she depicts, but she’s also inspired by historical surrealist figures like Man Ray.

In her development as an artist, Salomé’s practice is anchored to the act of translating and reinterpreting her personal mythology, which for her is ever-evolving. To keep up with this dynamism, she acutely observes the notion of time, fragility, vulnerability, as well as the elusive interplay between physical reality and the unseen. As her pieces are delicate yet completed with soft ethereal motions.
